FREDERICKSBURG -- Made in S.A hit the road again! This time they stopped in Fredericksburg to get the scoop on Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods.

The story of Fischer & Wieser began in a peach orchard off Highway 85 South in Fredericksburg.

"The store itself started in 1969 as a roadside market to sell peaches, and I think the first year I opened up I asked my mom to make jams and jellies," Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, co-founder, Mark Wieser said.

Wieser, who was also a teacher at the time, hired his student Case Fischer to help harvest and sell the summer before his freshman year of high school.

"He was a natural sales person and he could sell anything," Wieser said.

Fischer would go on to study in the food industry in college.

In 1986, he came back to Wieser after graduation with the proposition of selling their jams and jellies on a larger scale.

"Case was the creative person. With the idea of blending different flavors together," Wieser said. "He can create things. I'm just lucky to have him."

"Mark’s not too bad either," Fischer said.

The year 1996 was the advent of the Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce, which put them on the map.

The sauce still one of the company’s best sellers.

“We're the ones that introduced the chipotle pepper to the American pallet and that's remarkable for a bunch of Germans in a small town in Texas to do,” Wieser said.

Fischer & Wieser is now making over 300 different products which include other family brands like their Mom's Pasta Sauces.

“It's been a lot of fun and what we are doing is inspiring your culinary adventures," Fischer said.

You can find some of their products at your local grocers. Products are still being made by these two families in their small production facility just off Main Street in Fredericksburg.

“Our products make ordinary meals extraordinary. All you have to do is open it up and pour it on,” Fischer said.
