Love to Swim Schools ending Date Night program

A month after a toddler drowned at a San Antonio swim school, the employees who were working that night have resigned or have been placed on leave.

Love to Swim Schools has discontinued its Date Night program, effective immediately, a spokesperson said. In addition, all employees who were working the night a 3-year-old boy drowned have resigned from their position or have been placed on a leave of absence indefinitely.

It’s been one month since 3-year-old Mitchell Chang was found unresponsive in the deep end of a pool at the Love to Swim School in Stone Oak. The incident happened at a Date Night program, where parents could drop their kids off for the evening at the pool, where the school’s staff would supervise activities in and out of the pool. Date night was intended for children age three and up and includes swimming, crafts, games and food.

Staff pulled the boy out of the deep and, called an ambulance and performed CPR. He was taken to a hospital, where he died a few hours later. Investigators got involved and the school was closed the following day. The medical examiner ruled the death an accidental drowning.
