SAN ANTONIO -- A 15-year-old boy is now facing murder charges after he shot and killed 17-year-old Diego Rodriguez.
He first told police the shooting was an accident, but after hours of questioning the suspect confessed.
This morning police responded to apartments on the 3000 block of Callaghan Road. When they got there it was too late. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say the 15-year-old suspect ran to a neighbor’s apartment after he shot Rodriguez. Once police arrived to the scene, the neighbors told police they took the gun away from the suspect.
How Rodriguez and the suspect knew each other is not known at this time.
One rapper, Kyle Lee, knew Rodriguez. They met at an autograph signing in April. He said Rodriguez had a form of leg cancer.
"He always was bright. You wouldn't know he had cancer. He was a strong kid, positive kid. He loved working out. His best friend told me he loved to work out and listen to me,” said Lee. “I have a certain bond with my fans and when we lose one. This is the fourth or fifth one this year that we lost to violence and it's just tough."
Lee said Rodriguez was going to undergo two more years of chemo treatments and that he wanted to go to college to be an electrician.
Police said the 15-year-old is expected to make an appearance in juvenile court tomorrow.
