Lanier H.S. lockout caused by deadly drive-by shooting near school

Sidney Lanier High School was placed on lockout Monday afternoon after criminal activity was reported in the area, according to an SAISD spokesperson. The lockout remained in place until school was dismissed at 4:15 p.m.

Sidney Lanier High School was placed on lockout Monday afternoon after criminal activity was reported in the area, according to an SAISD spokesperson. The lockout remained in place until school was dismissed at 4:15 p.m.

SAISD is noting that a lockout is not a lockdown. A lockout allows students to travel around campus from class to class but restricts anyone from entering or leaving the campus.

The reason that the district has issued a lockout is a drive-by shooting that occurred a block away from the school at the 500 block of Torreon.

The San Antonio Police Department says that the call came in for the incident around 1:35 p.m.

According to SAPD Chief William McManus, an individual shot two people outside their home. One man described as being in his late 20s or early 30s died at the scene. Another man in his late 40s or early 50s was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say that the incident had to do with drugs.

No description of the suspect or vehicle was made available at the scene.
