JBSA: Randolph, Lackland gate closures begin Monday

JBSA announced gate closures and Randolph and Lackland Air Force bases beginning Monday, and they won't be short-term changes.

SAN ANTONIO — If you live in the northeast or southwest areas of San Antonio, you might have to prepare for some traffic on your commute beginning early next week.

According to officials with Joint Base San Antonio, gate closures at Randolph and Lackland Air Force bases could cause major backups in those areas.

Randolph’s main gate will be closed for two-and-a-half months for security upgrades, and all inbound traffic will have to enter through the east, west and south gates. Police in Schertz say to expect heavy traffic on FM 78 during the morning and afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, at Lackland, the Valley-Hi Gate, or Airmen’s Gate, will be inaccessible for 134 days beginning Monday. Inbound lanes will be completely closed, while outbound lanes will transition for two-way traffic.
