The San Antonio Stock & Rodeo Show announced Thursday that iconic announcer, Hadley Barrett, has passed away.

The organization announced the news "with heavy hearts" in a Facebook post. Barrett was with the San Antonio Stock & Rodeo Show for 28 years before his March 2 passing.

According to ProRodeoHallofFame.com, Barrett actually started his career as a contestant before forming his own band. But the site goes on to say that he found his place in "rodeo history" behind the microphone.

The post also speaks to Barrett's achievements. In his 87 years, Barrett won PRCA Announcer of the Year four times and was a Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee in 1999.

Hadley Barrett loved the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The post stated that at a wrap-up meeting this past weekend Barrett said, “Of all the years I’ve been announcing, that San Antonio Finals was the best Rodeo I have ever announced.”
