SANANTONIO-- George The Iceman Gervin, the retired professional basketball player who played for some time with the San Antonio Spurs, helped make the dream of a college education a reality for thousands of San Antonio youths.
Gervin, along with Compass Bank, hosted the first college extravaganza at St. Mary's University Saturday afternoon.
More than $1 million is being awarded to students who come from 21 schools around the area.
Education should be their no. 1 priority, Gervin said. Pursue higher education.
Not only did the students get autographs from Gervin but also advice from dozens of college admission and financial aid representatives.
