Furniture For A Cause closing after helping SA's homeless for 14 years

The store that's helped raise money for thousands of homeless and homeless prevention programs for SaMMinistries, is closing its doors for good at the end of February

A massive warehouse that helps the homeless is closing its doors on February 28.

For 14 years, the store allowed homeless people to learn a useful trade by refurbishing and selling donated furniture.

Furniture For A Cause, a store that's helped raise money for thousands of homeless and homeless prevention programs for SAMMinistries, is closing its doors because of the lack of donated items.

"I'm sad about having to make this decision, but our goal is to do the best that we can for the homeless in San Antonio, and this was a decision that the board and senior team made that made sense." SamMinistries CEO, Navarra Williams said.

The money raised goes toward rehousing and rehabilitating programs for the homeless.

The shop itself is a workplace for clients, but there's a shift in mindset among donors. People are opting to sell items online instead of donating them.

"I looked at the site the other day and there were people selling their stuff for $40 or $25 and I mean back in the day those were the kind of items that might have been donated, as opposed to that particular option that they're using today," Williams said.

Furniture For A Cause is having a 30-60 percent off sale to get rid of its inventory before the end of their lease on February 28.

You can still donate items through SAMMExpress which will go towards furnishing homes of people getting back on their feet.
