Federal employees affected by shutdown can ride VIA fare-free starting Friday

VIA announced the new program will be in effect for the duration of the shutdown.

SAN ANTONIO — Employees of the federal government who are affected by the shutdown can show their employee ID and receive free rides on VIA buses in San Antonio, VIA Transit announced. The program starts Friday, January 18 and runs until the end of the government shutdown.

The service applies to all VIA mainline bus service, including Prímo, VIVA, and VIAtrans paratransit service, according to a release.

VIA said first-time riders can visit their website to learn how to plan a trip, purchase future fares, and access other helpful information. Passengers are also encouraged to download the VIA goMobile app or  text their 5-digit bus stop number to 52020 for bus arrival information.
