Cibolo police investigating after hot dogs found stuffed with nails, glass and pills

Officials are urging residents walking their dogs to be extra vigilant.

CIBOLO, Texas — Police in Cibolo are warning residents to be careful after hot dogs were found that had been tampered with.

According to Matthew Schima, a spokesperson for the department, hot dogs were found on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Willow View that had potentially unsafe items stuffed in them. Those items included nails, glass and pills.

According to police, they have a person of interest, but no suspect has been named in the case. Sgt. Homero Balderas with the Cibolo Police Department told KENS 5 the case is still under investigation.

"If people have leads, if they have video off their security devices, if someone seems out of place or made comments, let us know so that way we can follow it up," Sgt. Balderas said.

No injuries to pets or people have been reported because of the hot dogs yet. A relief to pet owner and Willow Pointe resident David Patch.

"You don't want to see your pet go that way," Patch said.

If a pet was injured, a suspect could face a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty, punishable by a fine up to $4,000 and/or one year in jail, Cibolo Police said.

Police said the hot dogs were reported January 5, and more pieces were located on January 12 and 14. They believe the pieces found on the later dates were from the original incident, they just weren't seen at the time.

Schima told KENS 5 that the department is urging residents walking their dogs to always be vigilant of items in which their canine family members show interest and to keep them on a leash at all times.

Patch told KENS 5 he will continue to keep an eye out for the culprit he has a few words for.

"I think he's worthless and a low life and he needs to stop it. Eventually he's going to get caught and all he's doing is hurting people," he said.
