Bexar County schools rated: Some didn't make the grade

The Texas Education Agency released its annual accountability ratings for 2011. The scores show progress among most San Antonio schools. But there are some who didn't make the grade. Is your school on the list?

The Texas Education Agency released its annual accountability ratings for 2011.
The scores show progress among most San Antonio schools. But there are some who didn't make the grade.

A quick check of the TEA ratings show nearly two dozen schools that rated unacceptable throughout 5 school districts in Bexar County.

The ratings were tougher this year than ever.

The state increased math and science passing standards.

It got rid of a measure that allowed some schools to count kids who failed the TAKS test as passing it.

TAKS results for special ed students were counted, too.

in the SAISD, Sam Houston High School was deemed unacceptable again this year. That is one of six in that district ranked that way.

But district officials say they have something to celebrate, since they had twice that number on the list last year and faced tougher standards this year.

These rankings will stay with the schools and their districts for two years, not one.
Because the state is switching over from the TAKS test to the STARR test, awhole new test, new set of accountability standards will be implemented.
