Live Oak prepares for new IKEA opening

With a new IKEA opening in Live Oak in just under a month, Live Oak leaders want to make sure drivers are ready for the new traffic that will come with an influx of shoppers.

LIVE OAK, Texas — Staff members at the new IKEA in Live Oak are putting the finishing touches on the store ahead of the opening on February 13.

KENS 5 got an inside look at the new store Wednesday.

With the store opening in just under a month, Live Oak leaders want to make sure drivers are ready for the new traffic that will come with an influx of shoppers.

"We’ve been working really hard to solidify a plan that will benefit both those who reside in the area, as well as visitors anxiously awaiting IKEA’s opening," said City Manager Scott Wayman.

Engineers and developers have been working for months to prepare for changes drivers will face. Wayman says a traffic signal on Pat Booker is set to turn on January 31st, and then two signals on the Loop 1604 access road will be set to flash for drivers to get used to.

"This should give nearly two weeks prior to the opening of the IKEA for travelers to learn new traffic patterns," Wayman said.

The City of Live Oak will be posting a series of videos on Facebook where people can learn more about how to prepare for the opening on February 13th. You can view those videos here, and learn more about the IKEA grand opening here.
