The holiday season can be tough on families trying to make ends meet, but local middle schoolers are making sure no one is struggling to get food on the table this holiday season.
Zachry Middle School is a 71 percent title 1 campus and they offer free meals during the day to students who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford the meals.
"This helps every single family, that little bit between paychecks to make the holidays just that much brighter," Zachry Middle School Principal Susan Allain said.
Students know free groceries help fellow classmates, and they didn't shy away from lending a helping hand.
"Helping somebody gives you that pride inside that you're doing something." eight grader Robert Hernandez said.
This is the first time Zachry Middle School participated in the food drive. Principal Allain says that she's proud to support her community and is overwhelmed by the turnout.
The food drive was made possible by the United Way, Family Service Association, and the San Antonio Food Bank.
"All means all, and this is truly that true experience that every student and every family counts on our campus." Principal Allain said.
