Kyle movie theater reopens May 4

EVO Entertainment has put out a plan on how they will reopen safely with each step of the governor's plan to reopen the state.

KYLE, Texas — After Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order allowing many Texas businesses to reopen starting on May 1, one movie theater in Kyle is reopening.

EVO Entertainment made an announcement that starting on Monday, May 4, two of its venues would reopen, including the location in Kyle, Texas, and Schertz, Texas, with limited operations.

EVO Entertainment General Manager Derwin Jordan said they sold about 60 tickets on Monday May 4, which is slower than normal, but the staff said they're ready to welcome people in a safe way.

"We want to be that source of comfort. We want to be that source of helpfulness that people understand that when you come here, this is something that we've been doing for some time now," said Jordan. "We're cleaning and sanitizing all high contact areas such as door handles, even the rails of our theaters. We're asking our guests to be patient with us."

When you walk into EVO Entertainment, the floor is marked with social distancing stickers and an employee will take your temperature when you walk in. Movie-goers are required to wear masks and EVO Entertainment can provide one.

"The way we've done our movie times, we've spread them out so we're not jam packed together," said Jordan.

Customers have to pay with card and no cash will be accepted to pay for a movie ticket. They will be asked to use self-service kiosks and guests will be sitting two seats apart, unless they are from the same household.

"We're going to be going inside those theaters every 30 minutes, even during the movie to make sure that we're sanitizing anything that somebody could possibly be touching," said Jordan.

This is the first phase of EVO Entertainment's plan and they also have a phase two plan. The second phase will get rid of temperature checks and face masks for movie-goers, but there is no exact date when they will begin phase two.

In the announcement, EVO also said it will be re-launching its drive-in experience in Schertz and will soon expand it to Kyle and San Marcos, Texas.

EVO gave the following statement on what reopening will look like:

"In the coming days, we will share additional information such as what movies will be playing and how to purchase tickets, as well as expected re-openings of additional locations. In the meantime, we invite each of you to review our operating plans to see exactly what your in-venue experience will look like and view the steps we'll be taking to ensure that your entertainment experience remains safe and healthy."
