UIW names Dr. Agnese President Emeritus

Dr. Louis Agnese was named President Emeritus by the Board of trustees of the University of Incarnate Word on Friday.

Dr. Louis Agnese was named President Emeritus by the Board of trustees of the University of Incarnate Word on Friday.

According to a statement by UIW Chairman Charles Lutz, the board of trustees voted unanimously to name Dr. Agnese as President Emeritus, joining Sister Margaret Patrice Slattery, in that honored role.

"We have had very positive and affirming conversations with Dr. Agnese in the last few weeks and both the Board and Dr. Agnese are highly encouraged about the future of this important relationship," Lutz said.

According to the released statement, Dr. Agnese will be out of the country but they will discuss ways in which he can continue to support the success of the university in his new role.

"Dr. Agnese has meant so much to this university in his more than 30-year tenure as President and it has been our hope that we would all be able to honor his achievements and legacy at UIW," said Lutz in the statement.

According to UIW, Dr. Denise Doyle has been serving as acting president since Agnese began his medical leave, and she will continue in that role until a new president is selected. A search committee will be organized soon to begin a national search for a new UIW president.
