Police thought hit-and-run victim was dead upon arrival; victim remains in critical condition

The driver involved in the crash has reportedly turned themselves in.

SAN ANTONIO — One man remains in critical condition after being run over in a hit and run accident on the city's south side.

According to SAPD, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. near West Harlan and South Zarzamora Street. 

The victim, a man in his 30s or 40s, had his arm severed, a leg compound fracture and his mid-section appeared to be run over. 

Police reportedly thought the victim was dead when they arrived at the scene but discovered that he was still breathing. 

The driver involved in the accident called police when they got home. Charges are pending, so they have not been arrested at this time. 

The driver is likely to be charged with failure to stop and render aid. It is not believed the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
