SAN ANTONIO — A 20-year-old man was arrested after police said he robbed a Walgreens and a nail salon. Gabriel Anthony Gonzales is accused of robberies on May 7 and May 9.

According to the affidavit, on May 7, Gonzales was seen on surveillance video walking into the Walgreens on 14025 Nacogdoches Rd. just before 11 p.m. with an unknown woman.

The woman asked the cashier to make change for a dollar. When the cashier opened the register, Gonzales allegedly reached for it and tried to take the money inside. When the cashier, a 72-year-old man, tried to close it, he was peppered sprayed in the face.

The two suspects then fled on foot with the cash. A witness identified Gonzales as the man seen in the surveillance video during this incident.

Two days later, police were called to a nail salon on Huebner Road on the north side for a robbery. The owner told police a woman came to the business with a man to get her nails done. The owner said after the woman’s nails were finished, the man told her to go to the car.

According to the affidavit, the owner thought Gonzales was reaching for a tip but instead, grabbed pepper spray, sprayed his eyes, then ran out of the salon with a bag of money that was beneath the cash register.

Two days after the incident, police pulled over a car that had the pair inside. The woman later admitted to police that she was with Gonzales at the nail salon. She agreed to be a witness in this case and positively identified Gonzales.

Gonzales is charged with aggravated robbery with a $25,000 bond, according to online records. He also is charged with robbery with a $15,000 bond as well as possession of a controlled substance with a $1,500 bond.
