SAN ANTONIO — The day is almost here.

After months of waiting and hype and even more waiting, the San Antonio metro will finally have access to the new IKEA in Live Oak when the grand opening gets underway Wednesday morning. The Swedish furniture giant’s newest store will be located at 1000 IKEA RBFCU Parkway.

If you plan on being there when the store opens its doors to the public at 9 a.m. Wednesday, you have to be prepared. And being prepared means bringing some comfy shoes, a lawn chair and maybe a light jacket; the store is expecting a huge turnout, and customers can start lining up at 5 a.m.

Here's everything you need to know.

Are there going to be giveaways?

You bet. If being among the first ones through the door isn’t incentive enough to get in line early, maybe the possibility of free things will be. If you’re in line before 8 a.m., you’ll be entered to win one of three gift cards that are individually valued at up to $2,000!

Imagine how much you could spruce up your living room or kitchen with that money?

Even if you don’t win a gift card, the first 200 children 12 years of age and younger will receive a heart-shaped pillow, and the first 1,000 customers aged 18 and older will also get a free gift from the store.

Also, if you scan your IKEA FAMILY card at a kiosk, info tower or at checkout, the store says you’ll be entered into a giveaway for a $250 gift card later on.

How should I get there anyway?

IKEA is known for going above and beyond the experience provided by most furniture stores, which is why a huge early-bird crowd is expected to turn out on Wednesday morning. So you’ll want to get there early, and officials in Live Oak have provided some tips.

If you’re coming from the Alamo City, you’ll take the Pat Booker exit off I-35 and get into the right-hand lane, which feeds into the store’s parking lot, which won’t open until 5 a.m.

If you’re not feeling up to fighting the traffic – and there’s sure to be traffic – head to the nearby Rolling Oaks Mall. There, IKEA will shuttle bussing customers to the store.

When does the fun start?

Live music and other entertainment will begin at 6 p.m., with the grand ceremony set to start at 8:15. The story will be open until 9 p.m. on its first day, and the restaurant from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Should I start racking up awards early?

Absolutely. You’ll be getting some extra bang for your buck if you make some early buys. The store says that if you use your IKEA Family card and buy at least $125 worth of products through Feb. 24, you’ll get $20 off the next time you spend $100 at the store.

You’ll also want to make sure you have the IKEA mobile app ready and downloaded on your phone. It’s available on the Apple app store and Google Play, and lets you browse products, create a shopping list and see what’s currently in stock at the new location. It’s all about ease and convenience at IKEA.

Will these always be the store hours?

No. The store’s regular hours will be slightly different than when doors open on the grand opening. After Wednesday, the IKEA store will be open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the restaurant open 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on those days.

On Sundays, the store will be open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Sundays.

I won’t be able to make it to the grand opening on Wednesday. Where can I go for the latest information on it?
