SAN ANTONIO — Multiple emergency vehicles responded to San Antonio International Airport Friday evening when an airplane was forced to make an emergency landing, and ended up in the grass off the runway, according to city officials.

An aviation spokesperson for the city told KENS 5 that the aircraft's pilot was the only soul on board; they were not injured when the plane landed around 9 p.m.

According to the aviation spokesperson, the plane, which was a private plane and is classified as general aviation, had landing gear issues and was able to land; she added that "It would not be considered an emergency landing after further details."

At the time of the landing, officials confirmed that a trio of other flights have been diverted from the airport while the aircraft is tended to. The aircraft was tugged to its hangar where the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the incident.
