Cold case 'Orange Socks' victim identified as Abilene woman

The Williamson County Sheriff's Department identified the 40-year cold case 'Orange Socks' victim as Debra Jackson.

ABILENE, Texas — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Department released the identity of a women whose body was found about 40 years ago. She was only wearing orange socks.

Sheriff Robert Chody held a press conference Wednesday afternoon, and the victim was identified as Debra Jackson.

Jackson was 23-years-old when she was found on October 31st, 1979 in a concrete drainage ditch off I-H 35 north of FM 972 near Walburg Road.

The Travis County medical examiner ruled her death as a homicide by manual strangulation.

This summer, the new forensic sketches were released on all of Williamson cold cases, including Orange Socks. The victim’s sister called in and said that was her missing sibling.

The Jackson family said Jackson left home in 1977 and they didn’t report her missing, so she was never in any database to locate.

The Sheriff’s Department confirms Jackson worked in 1977, but don’t know where. In 1978 she was in Amarillo working at was it now called, Ramada Inn. In 1978 she was also working at an assistant living company in Azle, Texas.

The department is asking for the public’s assistance in Abilene, Amarillo, and Azle, Texas.
