SAN ANTONIO — It's the ultimate Alamo City bucket list!

A new book shows the best that San Antonio has to offer, from major tourist spots to hidden gems that even many locals would not know about.

"100 Things to do Before You Die" is written by author Denise Barkis Richter, Ph.D. She didn't grow up in San Antonio, but she got here as fast as she could and has spent decades exploring every nook and cranny in the Alamo City.

Richter has a passion for travel and decided to become a tourist in her own city. She started a travel blog of San Antonio in 2010, sanantoniotourist.net, which later became the backbone her book.

"I really covered the entire city, I made a really concerted effort to make sure I did north, south, east, west and central San Antonio," Richter said.

She said the book is not just for tourist, but locals can use it to explore undiscovered gems.

"I encourage people to really use this like a passport.  So every time, like on the weekend, 'What are we going to do this weekend? Let's go find foodie treasures at the Pearl'," said Richter.

She also explores seasonal events in the book, like Fiesta and the Rodeo. She says one her favorite lesser-known attractions is the San Pedro Creek Culture Park, which opened in 2018, during the city Tricentennial celebration.

You can find her book at local book store, Twig Book Shop at the Pearl, and on Amazon.
