AUSTIN, Texas — Austinites now have a new venue to catch music superstars and watch the Texas Longhorns basketball teams play. The Moody Center officially opens this week.
The 15,000-seat venue will debut to the public on Wednesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 21, with its first concerts from John Mayer. Moody Center's official grand opening is slated for Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 20, when George Strait, Willie Nelson & Family and Randy Rogers Band will take the stage for two nights of sold-out shows.
According to a press release, over 100 companies were used in the design and construction of Moody Center and the current estimated value of the subcontracts for the Texas-based companies is $206,890,031. Developers for the $338 million project include the University of Texas at Austin, Live Nation Entertainment/C3 Presents, the Oak View Group (OVG) and Matthew McConaughey.
The release states that Moody Center, which is located on Robert Dedman Drive, is surrounded by 200-year-old oak trees that were relocated during construction and are now planted around the Dell Technologies Plaza. The plaza will host sponsor activations and pre-show entertainment on the Hulu Stage.
If you head out to Moody Center, you won't need cash. The venue is cashless and features self-check-out concessions. Concessions include Stubbs Bar-B-Q, Tony C's and more, and featured bars include Tito's Handmade Vodka Bar and Milagro Tequila Bar, among others.
The venue also features numerous murals and neon designs by local artists, as well as an "artist compound" with six talent rooms named after iconic Austin music venues like the Broken Spoke and Continental Club.
For concert-goers who like a little something extra, Moody Center has numerous premium spaces, including more than 44 suites, nearly 2,000 club seats, three premium clubs (the Dell Technologies Club, Indeed Club and Germania Insurance Club), 57 loge boxes and one super VIP club (the Moët & Chandon Impérial Lounge).
Moody Center said as of March, suites and club memberships are sold out, but fans can join a waitlist for future premium experiences.
Though the venue opens this week, Moody Center already has a stacked lineup for this year so far. Among the artists slated to play in 2022 are Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber, The Who, Machine Gun Kelly, Florence + the Machine, Alan Jackson and more.
