Friends shaking things up at Dorcol Distillery | Made in SA

A friendship is brewing something different up on the south side.

SAN ANTONIO — "Folks always come in here and mess up the name of the space. It is dorcol. The C is like a 'ch'," Dorcol, co-owner Chis Mobley said. "Technically, it is a Serbian word. It's an area in Serbia."

Inside, co-owners, Chris Mobley and Boyan Kalusevic, are shaking things up with more than 25 cocktails on the menu.

"We met at the University of Texas and we had a marketing class together. And so he's from Serbia and in Serbia they make this product Rakia," Mobley said.

"Anytime they would go to his house he would share it with me. It was like a thing he was super excited to show off and no one was doing it here," Mobley said.

So the two friends, now businessmen, created their apricot based Rakia they call Kinsman.

"We've built a community of followers of folks who value what we do, and they also value the culture and the heritage that it comes from," Mobley said.

But it doesn't stop there.

They've also created a following for their beer line, High Wheel.

"We all really value travel here, so our idea was to brew styles. Classics styles of classic brewing regions in the world like you are traveling to them," Mobley said.

With ten different beers on tap now and Kinsman on the top shelf, there's a drink for anyone looking to get a taste of something new.

"The last five years have been a trip. I never thought it would happen, but I'm glad that it happened," Mobley said. "I've met so many different folks through this experience but who knows where the next five years will bring us."
