Here's a list of retailers requiring face coverings for customers

Many retailers nationwide are requiring staff and customers wear face masks because of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic

Some company's requirements have been in place since May, but others, such as Walmart and Sam's Club, will begin mask mandates on Monday, July 20.

NOTE: Since there is no federal mandate, some of these businesses— Walmart, CVS, Home Depot, Lowe's and Walgreens— will continue to serve customers that aren't wearing masks.

ALDI

Beginning July 27, ALDI will require face coverings before entering their stores.

"Our new face covering policy is an enhanced safety measure intended to help limit the spread of COVID-19," the company said. "All ALDI employees will continue to wear face coverings, as they have for months.

American Hotel & Lodging Association

The "Safe Stay Guest Checklist" released last week is an industry-wide set of requirements, such as wearing face coverings in indoor public spaces, for the travel industry.

AHLA members include Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Hyatt, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products and IHG.

Apple

"Face coverings will be required for all of our teams and customers, and we will provide them to customers who don’t bring their own," Apple announced in May.

Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy

The Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic will start requiring customers to wear face coverings on Aug. 1, joining a slew of retailers that have already put similar mandates in place to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Gap Inc. said the policy would affect all of its North American Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, Intermix and Janie and Jack stores.

Barnes & Noble

"Our standard policy is to require customers to wear face coverings, with discretion by store managers to make this policy a recommendation where this is warranted by local conditions," the company said on its website.

The locations at Jordan Creek Mall and University Ave (West Des Moines) are both requiring face masks.

Best Buy

Chipotle

Laurie Schalow, Chief Corporate Affairs and Food Safety Officer for Chipotle, issued the following statement to Local 5:

The health and safety of our employees and guests is our top priority. Starting today, Chipotle has proactively made the decision to require guests to wear masks in all restaurants.

Costco

All members and guests are required to wear a face covering that "covers their mouth and nose at all times" while shopping.

Children under the age of 2 and people unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition are exempt from the policy.

Goodwill of Central Iowa

Customers over the age of 2 must wear a mask inside stores.

Dollar Tree/Family Dollar

On July 8, Dollar Tree's website stated "all associates, customers, and vendors to wear cloth face coverings when inside our stores." That policy lasted until July 16.

The retailer now says, "to best help protect one another, and in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we are requiring all associates, customers and vendors to wear face coverings when inside our stores."

Home Depot

Kohl's

Beginning July 20, Kohl's customers will be required to wear masks in stores as part of the company's "consistent approach" to COVID-19 safety.

La Tapatia

Tapatia Uno announced on Facebook they will be requiring face coverings starting Friday, July 24.

Lowe's

Lowe’s will begin requiring shoppers to wear face masks on Monday, July 20, WFMY reports

Lowe’s said it will offer free masks at the customer service desk of every store for those who need them, while supplies last.

"As a retailer offering essential goods, we have a responsibility to our associates, customers and small businesses in communities nationwide to help provide a safe shopping experience," Marvin Ellison, Lowe's president and CEO said

Mayhem Comics and Games

Mayhem will be requiring face coverings in both their Ames and Clive locations starting Monday.  You will not be allowed in the store without one.

McDonald's

Starting Aug. 1, face coverings will be required when entering McDonald's locations in the United States.

"While nearly 82% of our restaurants are in states or localities that require facial coverings for both crew and customers today, it’s important we protect the safety of all employees and customers," the company announced Friday.

"The intent of this policy is to take a proactive approach and focus on quickly finding solutions when customers are unable or unwilling to wear a face covering," a release states. "In those situations where a customer declines to wear a face covering, we’ll put in place additional procedures to take care of them in a friendly, expedited way."

Menards

"To demonstrate our commitment to the safety of our Guests and Team Members, all shoppers and workers will follow the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask or face covering, which includes a full length face shield, when in our stores," the company said on their website.

Panera Bread

Guests at Panera are required to wear masks inside their bakery/cafe locations nationwide.

"Masks are required at all  times, except while seated and eating or drinking," the company's website said.

Petco

Masks required for customers starting Monday, July 20.

PetSmart

The company announced Sunday that it will begin requiring all customers to wear face masks beginning Monday, July 20.

Planet Fitness

Plato's Closet (Ankeny)

Starting Friday, July 17, Plato's Closet in Ankeny will require face coverings before shoppers can enter.

"We appreciate your continued support and understanding during this crazy time," the store posted on social media.

Starting Aug. 1, Target will require all guests to wear masks or face coverings in all of their stores. However, that excludes those with underlying medical conditions and young children.
