SAN ANTONIO -- A brewery owner is using bottles of beer to draw awareness to the importance of getting checked for prostate cancer.

Eugene Simor is the owner of the Alamo Beer Company in San Antonio, TX, and is a prostate cancer survivor.

"Alamo Beer Company was a dream up here 20 years ago," Simor said. "Then about 13 years ago, I was able to bring it all together, have a contract brewing partner, and came out with a product."

The Alamo Beer Company got involved with a non-profit organization called Pints for Prostates in 2015 during Father Fest, a Father's Day event held at the brewery.

According to their website,Pints for Prostates is a grassroots campaign that uses the universal language of beer to reach men with an important health message.

It was shortly after the Father Fest, at a routine checkup, that Simor was told he had an elevated PSA-level.

"Based on family history, had a biopsy done, and sure enough, I heard... I heard what one out of seven men hear, 'You have cancer,' Simor said.

Alamo Beer Company will be capping some of their beers with the bright blue, 'Pints for Prostates' bottle caps through the month of September, which is National Prostate Health Month.

"It really is that sort of, 'Oh, What's that?' You look at it, 'Pints for Prostates,' said Simor. "And the hope is that men will at least look at the other side of the cap and realize that getting detected early for prostate cancer saves lives."

Alamo Beer Company is one of just over 40 breweries in the nation that are partnering with Pints for Prostates. There are two other breweries in the state of Texas partnering with the cause but Alamo Beer Company is the only brewery in San Antonio.

Simor says he is obviously glad he survived his fight with prostate cancer and says the good thing about being a survivor is that you can drink more beer.
