'Sandia Super Loca' is SA fruteria's latest crazy creation

Think of it as a mangonada on steroids: This gargantuan watermelon treat feeds 4-6 people.

SAN ANTONIO - The "Sandia Super Loca" is the latest crazy concoction by Fruteria Las Gueras on the northwest side.

The massive watermelon treat is designed to feed up to six people. It's made of mangonada, fresanada, chamoy, cucumber and is loaded with candy.

Because quantities are limited, the fruteria is hosting an event Friday where people can build their own elaborate sandia treat. Tickets are available for $20, which includes a Sandia Loca for 2-4 people, or $30 for one that feeds 4-6.

Fruteria Las Gueras encourages guests to share one with friends and family, sit on the patio and enjoy each other's company.

Vanessa Huerta and Katya Ruiz's family owns the business, and they recently celebrated the fruteria's 17th anniversary.

"We're grateful you all have received us so well, allowed us to serve you and grown with us," Huerta said.
