Oscar Margain is a bilingual multi-skilled journalist assigned to the Texas-Mexico border.
Born and raised in Mexico, Oscar moved to Texas in 2005 to attend college.
In 2011, Oscar graduated from The University of Texas Pan-American (now UTRGV) with a bachelor's degree in mass communication and French, with minors in Spanish and global security studies.
Immediately after graduating, Oscar landed a job as a photojournalist at KRGV, the ABC affiliate in Weslaco, Texas. He would eventually get his break as a one-man-band reporter in 2013 at KTLM, the Telemundo station in McAllen, Texas.
The duopoly of KNVO-Univision and KFXV-Fox would be Oscar’s next move, where he became their lead bilingual reporter and Fox evening anchor. During his three-year tenure at Univision and Fox, Oscar won two Lone Star Emmy awards in the categories of Serious Feature/Series and two Excellence in My Market awards for Editing and Serious Feature.
Oscar’s wide-scope coverage of issues including immigration, public corruption, drug cartels, and border crime helped prepare him for his current role as a Texas border correspondent for KENS 5 and parent company TEGNA.
In his first year at KENS 5, Oscar earned two-second place awards from the Texas Associated Press for Investigative and Beat Reporting. The Houston Press Club recognized Oscar in 2017 with a third-place award for TV Reporter of the Year, and he earned another Lone Star Emmy award for Talent-Reporter.
Oscar is passionate about the visual arts. He keeps a video and photo journal of all the places where he travels. Needless to say, another one of his passions is discovering the world, learning about different cultures and trying new foods.
When not on the move, Oscar enjoys watching movies and TV shows (especially news parodies), playing drums (preferably with a full-rock ensemble), and basketball.
Oscar joined the Texas Border Bureau in the summer of 2016 with much enthusiasm to share unique stories from our southern frontier.
