Luke Simons is the Special Projects Content Manager for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas.
Born and raised in San Antonio, I couldn't be happier to be at KENS 5 as the discovery desk manager and military reporter. Once I arrived at KENS 5 in July 2016, I felt right at home.
It has been a long road to get back to the Alamo City, but a road that has taken me some great places and allowed me to meet many great people.
After graduating from Texas State University (it was still SWT when I was there), I wanted to be a sports reporter. I was able to get my foot in the door at KBTV in Beaumont, Texas, as a tape editor and photographer.
My second stop landed me in the lake-effect snow of Erie, Pa., as the WJET/FOX 66 sports director. Although this Texas boy nearly froze in the winters, it turned out to be a great place to really get my career going. I was fortunate to cover a Super Bowl, World Series, U.S. Open, Rose Bowl and Stanley Cup Final.
I made it back to the Lone Star State when I took a job in the Baylor University Athletics Department as the director of Sic ‘em Sports Productions. Soon afterward, I went down the Brazos River to College Station, where I eventually became the news director at KAGS-TV.
My wife, Erika, was also born and raised in San Antonio. We couldn't be happier to be closer to our family in the city where we grew up. We love to shop local (food, art, anything), go on hikes and look for anything fun to do around town. Technically, our long-haired Chihuahua, Charleston, is the most famous of our family, with a strong Instagram following (@charlestons_choice).
