Erin Rodriguez is a Multi-Platform Producer for KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas. She joined the KENS 5 team in June 2019.
Erin previously worked at three TV stations in Florida, including WPLG in Miami, where she produced a variety of newscasts. She has a bachelor's degree in telecommunication news from the University of Florida, where she reported for the National Public Radio affiliate and UF's TV station.
When Erin was a college intern at WPLG, she experienced what it was like to cover a huge breaking news story. On a Saturday in May, she was called in to work because a plane had crashed in the Florida Everglades – it was 1996 and all 110 people on board died. She was hired on the spot to help out the assignment desk, and she kept her previous general assignment reporting internship going with The Miami Herald, too.
When Erin worked at her first TV station in Jacksonville, Florida, right out of college, she covered another huge story that's always stayed with her. She was asked to help facilitate an interview with a family of a missing 8-year-old girl for Good Morning America. A few hours later, the girl's body was found. The story drew national attention and had a huge impact on Erin's journalism career, making her realize that every moment is special and not guaranteed.
Erin moved to San Antonio in 2007. She enjoys spending time with her family and loves learning more about all San Antonio has to offer. Erin believes everyone has a story to tell, so she usually strikes up a conversation wherever she goes.
Erin's story is that she has four children – her three oldest (all boys) have autism. She has learned a huge life lesson through being their mom, and that is to follow their strengths and interests and never look back.
