Andrea Carden is a Digital Content Producer / Social Media Specialist at KENS 5 in San Antonio, Texas. She joined the team in June 2022.
Andrea was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and has lived in Maryland, Hawaii, Florida, California, Nevada, South Carolina and (of course) Texas. She went to a different school almost every year until she graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio. She went on to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where she pursued a degree in communications.
Once she graduated from college, Andrea’s first job in TV was at KMOL, where she was a production assistant. She ran studio and hand-held cameras, operated the teleprompter, worked as a stage manager and even learned to do graphics for the news.
From KMOL, she went on to KTRK in Houston as a Chyron operator for the news. She honed her skills there and started working on a freelance basis for television sports.
Once she had enough steady work in the world of sports, she left TV news altogether and freelanced for networks like Fox Sports, ESPN and Turner Sports, covering every sport from football, baseball and basketball to hockey, soccer, swimming, professional rodeo and even cricket! There is not a sport you can name that she hasn’t worked doing graphics.
Andrea traveled the United States working live sporting events until she took a full-time job at Fox Sports in Los Angeles, working on shows such as College Football Saturday, Best Damn Sport Show Period, Final Score and DirecTV’s Red Zone Channel.
She left TV sports in 2012 and found her way back to San Antonio and KMOL, which was now WOAI and Fox San Antonio, accepting a full-time position in the traffic department. After a few years, she joined their digital team as a content producer, writing stories for their websites and posting to social media.
Andrea has written a weekly Pet of the Week story and specializes in finding compelling content about animals of all shapes and sizes. She also enjoys publishing stories about folks in San Antonio who are making a difference with their lives.
When she is not working, Andrea enjoys spending time with her two Persian cats, Barnaby and Stassi, and binge-watching shows on Netflix.
