Spurs honor Reagan trainer who saved student's life

Joe Martinez, a Reagan High School trainer that saved a student's life, was honored at the Spurs game on Saturday night.

Joe Martinez, a Reagan High School trainer who saved a student’s life in January, was honored on the court at the AT&T Center by the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

March is National Athletic Training Month, so the Spurs honored the San Antonio trainer that’s made the most headlines this year.

According to a letter sent by Reagan basketball coach John Hirst, one morning in early January, varsity basketball player Kaeyel Moore collapsed and stopped breathing. Martinez administered CPR while Hirst retrieved an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Moore was transported to nearby North Central Baptist and has since made a full recovery.

A few weeks ago, nurses, doctors, and administrators at North Central Baptist honored Martinez and Hirst for their efforts in saving Moore’s life.
