Volunteers from across the country will unite for Make A Difference Day, one of the largest annual single days of service nationwide. This year's national day for volunteering is Saturday, Oct. 22.
Since 1992, volunteers and communities have come together on Make A Difference Day with a single goal to improve the lives of others.
This year, KENS 5 will be teaming up with volunteers from Arby's to clean up two part of the west-side grounds for the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio (BGSCA):
- General Store: The Calderon Clubhouse houses a store with small prizes used to incentivize participation and progress in activities. The kids truly look forward to picking out prizes! Volunteers will clean and restock the General Store.
- Baseball Field: The City of San Antonio has leased the baseball field to BGCSA for $1 a year in recognition of services provided to at-risk youth in disadvantaged neighborhoods. The field is used both for sports and as a hub for other types of community involvement and team-building activities. Volunteers will be doing general upkeep, then mowing and landscaping the field.
Make A Difference Day is made possible by you and the people of TEGNA with support from Arby’s Foundation and Points of Light.
Are you MAKING A DIFFERENCE in our community? You can add your Make A Difference Day volunteer event to the national website so others can find your event and help! By registering, projects become eligible to win a $10,000 grant to donate to a charity of their choice.
Make sure that you post on social media during your event using #MDDAY so we can share your event with all of San Antonio!
