The San Antonio Roses entertain at the 2009 Start! San Antonio Heart Walk

2009 Start! San Antonio Heart Walk

Sponsors and organizers were pleased with the turnout at this year's Heart Walk held at Brooks City Base. The event got underway at 7:30am in the midst of foggy weather and a morning chill. The unexpected closure of the access road from IH 37 to Military Drive detoured many all the way to Loop 410 causing some delays.

The sponsor's goal for this year's event was $600,000 which go towards bringing community awareness to heart disease.

Assisting in this year's effort were countless corporate volunteers from IBC Bank, Health Net, Baptist Health Systems, Time Warner, Genesis, Valero, SA Air Live, Methodist Healthcare, Kindred Hospital, Subway and many more.

Entertainment was also provided by the The San Antonio Roses, an independent professional cheerleader organization headed by Cynthia Trinidad, crowned Mrs. San Antonio 2009 United America and former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

Also performing were the ever energetic Kazamba, a percussion and dance ensemble that specializes in Carribbean, African and Brazilian rhythms. Among the group were Dora Sanchez, Elvira Rivas, Olga Villasenor , Mari Luna and eight others. Kamaza has been performing for five years and were last seen at the River Falameau during Fiesta Week.

Also making their presence were Ashley Dixon, Queen of Soul and Faith Green, Miss San Antonio International 2010.

The Spurs Coyote was the center attraction for many of the children that also participated in this year's walk.
