Painted Portrait of Military Service

Navy Veteran

Bonnie "Averill" Brown would have been a lifer in the Navy if it hadn't been for wanting children. She enlisted in 1962 and was a Key punch operator. She met my dad who was in the Navy. A few years later she was discharged due to pregnancy or she probably would have made it a career like my father who served 30 years. After her discharge she worked at the VA. After my Dad got orders for Lackland AFB we moved here. She worked for Northside School District as a Bus Driver and Teachers Assistant for 22 years. Both my parents recently passed away. I am forever reminded of their service, sacrifices and dedication to our country each time I see their military pictures hanging on my wall with the American Flag folded neatly in a display case above them. I honor both their memories and service this Veterans Day! I also want to express my sincere gratitude to all who have served or are still serving in our Nation's Military. I appreciate your sacrifices and dedication to defend our freedom!
