July 7, 2011 is a morning I'll never forget. Me and a few colleagues decided to have a staff meeting over breakfast. Panera Bread seemed like a great choice. Good coffee, free wifi ... you couldn't ask for much more.
As we're wrapping up, we hear what at first sounds like someone in the kitchen has dropped some dishes, some very large dishes. As the sound of crashing and breaking glass continued to intensify, I realized something wasn't right. I stood up and looked over my right shoulder to see a large glass window shattering.
My first thought was that someone had thrown a rock through the window, but when I turned the corner I couldn't believe what I saw. Someone had literally driven through the two large glass windows into the restaurant. A young man who was studying in front of those windows lay on the ground half way across the restaurant. It took me a few moments before I could comprehend what had happened.
Thank God everyone was okay. The man who was sitting right where the car crashed into the restaurant escaped with only a few scratches on his arm. No doubt he also will never forget this July morning.
