Two NISD teachers were given scholarships to attend the Space Academy for Educators that was sponsored by Honeywell. The training was from June 23 to June 27, 2011 at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. During the program, the Honeywell Educator participates in a variety of activities including 45 hours of classroom, laboratory and field training. They also have the unique opportunity to participate in astronaut training exercises including a high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, land and water survival training, and a state-of-the-art flight dynamics program. All lessons taught at Space Academy and lesson plans provided to the teachers correlate to U.S. National Science and Math Standards, and are ready to use in the classroom.
