SAN ANTONIO -- Two men were arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly going on a robbery spree that ended with a chase and shootout with a private security officer.

The crime spree started at the Valero gas station in the 8000 block of Fredricksburg Road near Datapoint.

San Antonio police said two men, both armed with shotguns stormed into the store and demanded cash from the clerk.

The clerk got flustered and the robbers picked up the whole register and took off. They were seen leaving in a gold Nissan Altima.

While police were investigating the Valero robbery they said the suspects robbed a Whataburger restaurant and a Shell gas station in Balcones Heights.

A private security guard saw the suspects leaving the Shell gas station and started to follow them.

Investigators said the suspects shot at the female security guard and she shot back in self defense. No one was hit in the shootout.

The female security guard followed the suspects until police took over.

The chase ended in the Sage Crossings apartment complex off I-10 and Oakdale Street.

Police said the suspects' car had a tire blowout during the chase, and that may be why they came to a stop.

The men were arrested without giving police any resistance.

Balcones Heights and San Antonio police departments are jointly investigating the crime spree.

Investigators said the suspects, one is a juvenile, are facing a number of charges including aggravated robbery and possibly attempted murder for shooting at the security guard.
