SAN ANTONIO -- Police say a young woman is hospitalized after getting in the middle of what appeared to be a large fight between two rival gangs on the city
The 24-year-old victim told police she was visiting her friend Wednesday night in the 5400 block of Gawain Drive when nearly 40 people started fighting in the parking lot.
Fearing her car might get damaged, she confronted the crowd as she tried to get in her car and leave. That's when one of the men allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the victim once in the right ankle.
Police said the parking lot fight was likely gang related.
They said detectives are sorting out details and hope to locate a suspect early Thursday.
The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
