Ryan Seacrest was working his 'American Idol' magic outside the Alamodome as contestants made their way inside to put their voice to the test.

In his natural form, Seacrest chatted with hopefuls between shots for the upcoming Season 12. He even took some time to answer questions from the press.

Excited to be back in San Antonio, Seacrest explained that he doesn't exactly know what the judges are looking for since the scope of who can participate has expanded so much since the show first aired in 2002.

"If we were to say we we're looking for Jessica and Phillip last year you would have thought we were crazy because they're totally different types of singers," he said. "The beauty is we aren't quite sure what we're looking for until something stands out."

Seacrest didn't have too much to say about his visit to San Antonio other than it is going to be just a quick stop. He did, however, praise the energy of the crowd -- along with the cooler morning temperatures.

"It is brand new each time and it is so refreshing and exciting to see the engagement that we've had with the country, and all parts of the country, and the turnout we continue to get a decade later," he said.
