BUFFALO -- Cameras captured a dramatic rescue effort to save a dog trapped on the icy waters of Lake Erie.
It definitely came to a happy ending in the Town of Westfield. The dog's owner Phil Frost said, "I'm doing real good now that I have my dog back."
What did he think about the whole ordeal?
"Its been crazy, she disappeared Thursday at midday. I've been searching the woods for five days looking for her. If it wasn't for you guys covering this I would have never known she was down this far," Frost said.
Frost had put out flyers and a Pet Amber Alert for the eight-year-old mutt.
Frost explained, "I put out probably 200 flyers to all the local businesses around town, all around Angola, Evans, Brant area. I went online. Tthere is a petamberalert.com, anyone who loses a dog I highly recommend going there. I mean, they send an alert to all the local vets and clinics and groomers within a 25 mile radius, so they'll get all the resources out there."
Senior Captain of the Westfield Fire Department Dave Davies said, "Basically, we got a call from our local PD last night that somebody had spotted a dog on ice."
There were two basket rescues.
Davies said, "They brought the dog into shore, to the fire department, the dog got out of the chopper and decided it wanted to go back onto the lake. So the Erie County chopper Air One had to back out and re-rescue the dog and bring him in. As we can see, she is tired and ready to go home."
Davies added, "She got a clean bill of health from the vets here in Westfield and we have a happy owner. We certainly love the outcome of the events.
