Crash leaves one dead, one injured near Loop 410, W.W. White Road

Man dies after being struck by car

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police have identified the man hit and killed Thursday near Loop 410 and W.W. White Road.

SAPD said the victim was 32-year-old Robert Corley Cornish.

Cornish was hit after a teenage girl lost control of her car. Cornish was rushed to the hospital but died on the way. The young woman was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The accident occurred on northbound Loop 410 near W.W. White Road. Police said Cornish, who was driving a service truck hauling a trailer, pulled over to the shoulder of the highway and was out of the vehicle inspecting his trailer.

Investigators don't know why the young woman lost control of her car and veered onto the shoulder where she struck Cornish who was standing behind his trailer.

"He did everything right. It's very dangerous to stand on the side of the freeway. If you have trouble and can get away from the freeway it's always a good idea," SAPD officer Doug Greene said.

Please said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
