SAN ANTONIO -- One of America's leading anti-terrorism scholars tells KENS 5 that the U.S. should be on guard for any possible small scale attacks from Jihads in the U.S. that might be inspired by ISIS on the anniversary of September 11th.

"ISIS wont be able to launch an attack for two years," said Dr. Jeffrey Addicott, Director of Center for Terrorism Law, St. Mary's University.

He says without a well-coordinated infrastructure in place, ISIS won't be in position to carry out a major attack in the U.S. in the near future.

Although ISIS is a growing movement that has been taking over cities in Iraq and Syria, Dr. Addicott said it would take more money, timing and planning for ISIS to launch a large scale attack in America. Meantime, he says ISIS could inspire Jihads who are already here to attack.

"They are inspired by ISIS and that is dangerous," said Dr. Addicott.

Dr. Addicott acknowledges that there is online chatter already mentioning an ISIS attack in America as the anniversary of September 11th approaches and in the wake of two American journalists being beheaded by ISIS.

"It would be a small scale attack," said Dr. Addicott.

He adds that Texas is not immune from radical Islamic attacks and cites the Ft. Hood shooting.

The White House says President Obama is cautious about launching military strikes in Syria.

Dr. Addicott says the U.S. needs to do more to prevent ISIS from gaining the momentum to strike in America.

"The strategy has to be to destroy ISIS. How do we accomplish that? By supporting the Kurdism" he said. "Use our air assets."

KENS 5 is waiting to hear back from local FBI officials to learn if any threats here in San Antonio are on their radar.
