A teacher was rushed to the hospital Friday after being attacked by a student at Devine Middle School.

The attack happened inside the school band hall sometime shortly after noon, police said. The band teacher was alone when the student approached her, they said.

School officials said the band teacher was coherent when EMS arrived, and she is expected to be OK.

District superintendent Linda McAnelly told KENS 5 she was on her way to check on the teacher at a nearby hospital.

The student was detained. Devine police have not yet said what charges the student will face.

Parents were contacted about the incident through the school's emergency messaging system. The school was not put on lockdown. and classes resumed as usual.
