SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County has begun trying repeat DWI offenders for felony murder instead of intoxication manslaughter.

Christopher Lamar, 27, became the county's first drunk driver to be convicted of felony murder rather than intoxication manslaughter because of previous DWI offenses.

In 2012, Lamar slammed his SUV into a car on San Antonio Highway, killing a fourth grader and her mother.

A jury sentenced Lamar to 30 years in prison Monday.
