SAN ANTONIO -- A woman was ambushed by an armed man while getting out of her car at a northwest-side apartment complex on Wednesday morning.

San Antonio police said the suspect may be the same man who has been terrorizing women along the I-10 corridors in a series of violent crimes.

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4900 block of USAA Bouldevard around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to investigators, a woman was confronted by a light-skinned man armed with a handgun and wearing a beanie hat and a mask covering part of his face.

The woman told officers he grabbed her purse and grabbed her. For some reason, police said, he then gave the woman back her purse and ran away.

Police combed the area near the side apartment complex but did not locate the suspect.

In late October, SAPD Chief William McManus warned the public about a series of attacks against women in a certain area of San Antonio. He did not officially connect the crimes because some of the descriptions of the suspects seemed to vary.

At the time, police detectives were investigating sexual assaults and aggravated robberies occurring north of Loop 410 and south of Huebner Road off of the I-10 corridor.

McManus said all the crimes were committed between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.
