SAN ANTONIO -- Thousands of military men and women are expected to move to the San Antonio area in the coming months and years. Picking a realtor and looking for a home can be a difficult task, particularly for veterans.
Tuesday's event hosted by San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR) aimed to provide realtors with the proper tools to make the home buying process easier for veterans.
We're here just to learn and help our veterans, said Liza Reyes with SABOR. Whether it's purchasing, renting or whatever, (realtors) need the tools to know what to do to help (veterans).
In the coming months, 4,800 veterans are expected to return to San Antonio.
I've heard about 15,000 over the next ten years, Reyes said. That's a lot of military.
Fifteen-year Army veteran Levi Rodgers, sustained severe injuries after an explosive device killed his comrades in Afghanistan. Rodgers shared his story at Tuesday's seminar.
I just went through a transaction myself, Rodgers said. My realtor was great but there were a lot of challenges and requirements that I needed.
Rodgers decided to become a realtor because he believed his experience as a veteran could aid future home buyers.
I have met numerous folks out there that have purchased homes from realtors that didn't understand the benefits that are available to veterans and especially Texas veterans, Rodgers said.
Rodgers believes the program will successfully provide realtors with the knowledge they need to welcome our veterans home.
Proceeds from Tuesday's seminar will be donated to local veteran organizations.
