NEW BRAUNFELS - Counties and volunteers across South Texas rolled out the welcome mat Tuesday urging people to register to vote.

It was a part of a national non-partisan campaign dubbed the National Voter Registration Day.

The point of this day, according to organizers,is to remind people of the necessary steps they must take to be eligible to vote, and in New Braunfels the Comal County Voter Registrar wanted people to realize just how easy it can be.

For three hours Tuesday her office ran a drive-thru voter registration event in the parking lot of Landa Plaza Shopping Center.

There s really no excuse anymore in my opinion not to be registered to vote, said county registrar Cathy Talcott.

The county collected 25 applications at the drive-thru registration event.

Talcott said, Success would be one even one person that has never registered to vote.

While many cited the convenience of the drive-thru process as the reason they came Tuesday, New Braunfel s resident John Kreiner said he wasn t seeking convenience but rather a say come November.

He filled out an application in his pick-up truck in less than five minutes but said he would have waited for hours if necessary.

I think it s an important enough election that I need to get registered to vote, he said.

Deadline for voter registration is October 9.
