A large electric utility tower that collapsed near the Leon Valley Creek bridge Tuesday has closed down roads and cut off power to thousands of area residents.
Authorities report that Bandera Road has been closed and a three-block area around the bridge has also been closed.
Albert Cantu with CPS Energy said there was a contractor on site where they were stringing line up from Grissom Road to Bandera Road when a transmission tower buckled Tuesday at around 5 p.m.
As it collapsed, of course, it took out two of our circuits, which is affecting about 6,000 CPS Energy customers, says Cantu.
It appears that the line could have been too tight, but it is too early to determine what caused the crash, Cantu pointed out.
Crews are working hard to get the power restored to all customers in the area. As of 6 p.m. power had been restored to all but about 2,000 residents.
