SAN ANTONIO -- Local parents of autistic children now have a school all their own. The Foundation School at 3622 Fredericksburg Road isTexas' first public school solely for children with autism.

The instruction is tuition-free and is provided by the Autism Community Network.

The school officially opened in August with three classrooms for children ages 3 to 6 years of age. Wednesday, 21 children with autism spectrum disorders are receiving intensive early intervention therapy.

New research is showing promise for those suffering from learning disabilities. Using aMRI, doctors discovered certain areas of the brain where the left and right hemispheres don't communicate with each other.

The areas are associated with attention, facial recognition and social functioning - skills that people with autism struggle with. Scientists are launching larger studies to confirm the results
