SAN ANTONIO -- An off-duty officer working security for a northeast-side restaurant shot and killed a man who reportedly brandished a weapon Friday morning.
SAPD: Off-duty officer shoots, kills armed man at Chacho's
According to a police report, the off-duty officer, who was working security at the restaurant, was attempting to break up a fight between two drivers when a passenger stepped out of a vehicle armed with a revolver.
According to a preliminary police report, two drivers began arguing in the drive thru of Chacho's & Chalucci's following a minor accident around 1:30 a.m.
Off-duty officer Robert Encina, who was in full uniform, was called over to stop the argument.
Investigators said Marquise Jones, armed with a silver revolver, stepped out of one of the vehicles while the officer was assisting one of the drivers.
According to the police report, the officer felt threatened and fired shots at Jones. The suspect was hit in the torso and collapsed and died at the scene. The shooting victim was 23-years-old, police said.
Ofc. Encina has been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
